5 rules that work

Hey guys!

We are making an AI-based personal career assistant and skills assessment platform MyPath.ai that can help You change your career in the way most convenient for You. But beware that our AI can show you some occupation that you don’t even think about, it can change your life — so take it at your own risk.

As a startup, we use the «lean startup» methodology. A bad choice is first to make the product and second is to try to know what your customers want.
Be savvy. As a first step, make a landing page with a product value proposition and its design concept — “seeing is believing”. How do You know if your value proposition is clear for your target audience? Requests of early adopters for product access can serve to show interest in the product.

What have we done to get these requests?

1. We’ve built the landing page with the product design concept and early adopters’ emails request.

2. We’ve asked users to give us honest feedback on our landing page here:

  • Product Hunt
  • Indiehackers
  • Hacker News
  • Quora
  • Reddit

As a result, we got a lot of proper feedback from Product Hunt, Indiehackers, Hacker News.

Quora and Reddit weren’t too generous with feedback.

The most active reaction was in the Product Hunt community, the deepest dive in our product — in Indiehackers. One “indiehacker” even recorded a 6 minutes video where he thoroughly explored our landing and commented on it in detail.

Considering the comments, we have improved our landing page throughout the day and immediately saw the conversion from visitors to early adopters (who sent requests) has doubled.

So, with 0 expenses on PR and advertisement, we got 118 early adopters requests plus early-stage venture funds interests.

How does it work?

1. Be agile. Ask for feedback — get it — improve your product/landing. Don’t delay, your early adopters want to see your change for the better in real-time.

2. Ask only for feedback, not for upvotes or requests. Your main goal is to make users know your product. As Hacker News says “Users should vote and comment when they run across something they personally find interesting — not for promotion.”

3. Always thank for the feedback left, even if you don’t like it.

Every person providing feedback makes pro bono work for you. They help you save your time and money. Be grateful.

4. Remember feedback is a gift, take it or leave it.

Take only what you think is necessary.

After all, this is your product, it is okay when it is not suitable or clear for everyone.

5. Pass it on. Don’t use communities only in your personal interests, give your feedback, be helpful.

Karma is not just your rating on Reddit.

And… appreciate your honest feedback! 😊
